Are You Clean Inside?

We live in an era where there are many treatments that can improve the appearance of the skin such as botox and skin resurfacing. I am an advocate, however, of using nature to restore and prevent outer aging by creating internal youth with food and healthy therapies. It took years to become aware of the harm that anti-bacterial products have caused and it may take years to see the damaging effect of some popular skin regimens.

Nourishment from the inside out does not happen overnight but the results are a long term radiant beauty that is reflected in glowing skin and sparkling eyes. One of the simplest forms of purification is to just drink water, perhaps adding some fresh lemon juice or lovely berries to burst the flavor. Beauty is much more than the shape of someone’s face as it includes a genuine smile, vibrancy of color and a spark of life beaming a youthful glow.

What are some of these natural approaches that inspire life to burst forth from within? Second to hydration it begins with food – delicious, colorful, juicy and life sustaining. Cucumbers can be placed directly on the skin to provide cooling for minimizing puffiness and can be eaten to cool inflammation in organs and tissues. Vitamin C has long been known to support repair of the skin’s surface. When combing oranges, lemons, grapefruit, strawberries, kiwi and pomegranates and sprinkling with nuts and seeds such as walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds (pepitas) for their zinc, copper, fats, vitamins A, C and E, you have the perfect recipe to aid in collagen synthesis.

Healthy fat means healthy skin that doesn’t add to your hips. Begin with olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil which are all high in antioxidants that fight free radicals and essential fatty acids that reduce inflammation. Using grapeseed oil to cook mackerel, sardines, salmon or oysters minimizes free radicals and these excellent sources of protein are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and zinc, powerhouses for skin loveliness.

Clear eyes are part of a youthful appearance and can be supported by abundant supplies of vitamin A and C found in carrots, pumpkin and sweet potato. To frame the face, strong, healthy hair is nourished with avocado and eggs that re rich in healthy fats. A natural hair mask can even be created from mixing three to four tablespoons of egg white, four to five tablespoons of almond milk, and two tablespoons of coconut oil. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and apply it to your hair. Bask in this elixir for an hour and then wash thoroughly with cold water.

Greens create glow so blend them in smoothies, eat them in salads and consume them as garnishes. Be creative with variety choosing the common and not so common such as kale, spinach, curly endive or dandelion greens. The protection from free radicals along with the boost in antioxidants will support a healthy gut and an inner vibrancy.

Once you have your inner glow going take it a step further by ridding your body of toxins and increasing skin collagen with weekly infrared sauna treatments. This therapeutic experience is relaxing while it super stimulates inner fluid tissues of the blood and lymph to move more efficiently bringing nourishment to extremities and flushing out waste through sweat, urination and bowel movements. Get ready to feel amazing!
